The premium system was introduced to encourage breeders to present mares for inspection at three or four years of age when they should get their best scores.
Mare entry fees paid at inspection time are carried forward until the year the mare is bred. If a mare has been inspected and not bred, the credit is kept. While not all mares are entered for breeding each year, the increase in our mare herd is mirrored by a yearly increase in registrations.
Additionally, the incentive is now there for proving mares in performance through Riding Horse Tests, material classes and in open performance. Premiums earned in Riding Horse Tests and Material classes will be recorded by CWHBA. More provinces are hosting Riding Horse Tests as well as material classes including Jumper Material.
For other Performance premiums achieved from Open competition, owner's must provide necessary documentation to the office. Please keep your Equine Canada Passport current in order to document those results.
