VDL Ulando H represents the creme de la creme of Holstein and Dutch Warmblood breeding, with no less than seven international grand prix jumpers in the first three generations of his pedigree. Ulando is a modern type warmblood stallion with tremendous jumping ability and athleticism. He is very well balanced in his gaits, and his canter, in the words of Olympian Beth Underhill, is "simply perfect".
Ulando was sired by the very successful Holstein grand prix jumper Corland, who is a product of the proven formula of Cor de la Bryere x Landgraf. Corland has achieved Keur status with the KWPN, a title bestowed on only the best of Holland's stallions. Ulando's dam, the Keur Preferent dutch warmblood mare Fanieta, is sired by the KWPN preferent stallion Olympic Ahorn, whose international success in the grand prix ring qualified him for the Barcelona Olympics.
Ulando's sport career has been stellar. As a 3-year-old in 2004, Ulando was Vice-Champion of the Free Jumping Competition, which is hosted annually by the Hanoverian Breeders Club. He returned as a 4-year-old in 2005, where he was declared Champion of the four-year-old class and Grand Champion of the competition.
At the very young age of 3 years, Ulando was named Champion of the 2004 Ontario CWHBA stallion licensing and Vice-Champion of the 2004 CWHBA National Stallion Performance Test, where he achieved the highest jumping index and second highest dressage index of all stallions in the test.
Later that same year, Ulando was ridden to a very respectable 3rd place finish in the prestigious Lt. Governor's Cup at the Royal Winter Fair. In 2005 & 2006, Ulando was campaigned in the Canadian Jumper Development Series and on the HITS circuit by Beth Underhill. His other accomplishments include top placings in Ocala in 2007.Ulando has a kind nature and a beautiful, willing temperament that is desirable in all types of riding horses. He is a good cross for those mares requiring improvement to the elasticity and correctness of gaits, a stronger loin connection and topline, improved scope over fences, and overall refinement and athleticism. His first crop of foals is proving to be exceptional, placing in the top 3 at breed shows and foal futurities across the country. His offspring are applauded for their excellent balance, movement, athleticism, beautiful exteriors, and friendly, outgoing temperaments.
In 2008 Ulando started his eventing career with Ruth Armstrong and he loves it. They already have several successes at the training level level both in Ontario & Florida. He was also the reserve champion for the National Open Young Event horse. Feed back has said Ulando has exactly what it takes to be the epitome of today's modern warmblood & event horse. Scope to burn , gaits to die for and a fast light gallop.Ulando is also showing at the 1.45 jumper succesfully. Ulando has just completed the Faithill internation 2** in 9th place from a field of 60+ competitors and is therefore longlisted to the eventing team, with an eye to the 2012 Olympics. His foals are proving exceptional, with movement, athletism correctness of gaits and very personable, they are winning the freejumping, the Young Event horse and have strted in th edressage ring!! He is a good cross with both warmbloods and Thoroughbreds.
Ulando is standing at Armstrong Farm in Orangeville, ON
